Belarus invites China to boost direct regional ties

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Development of interregional ties between Belarus and China holds great promise. Belarusian MPs invite their Chinese colleagues to step up work on this front. New opportunities in this area were discussed during a meeting between Vice Speaker of the Council of the Republic of Belarus' National Assembly, Chairwoman of the Belarusian Union of Women Marianna Shchetkina and Shen Yueyue, Vice Chairwoman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, Chairwoman of the All-China Women's Federation, in Minsk on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

The Council of the Republic, the chamber of parliament of territorial representation, believes that development of direct interregional ties holds great promise, Marianna Shchetkina said. The countries already have positive experience in this area. Belarusian regions maintain fruitful cooperation with the Chinese provinces Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hunan, and the city of Chongqing. “Such contacts lay the basis for the development of cooperation. Interparliamentary groups of friendship are ready to intensify all cooperation processes between the regions,”the vice speaker added.

The agenda of the meeting included a wide range of matters, including the development of the China-Belarus Industrial Park the Great Stone. China's parliamentary delegation led by Shen Yueyue visited the park on 2 April. Possible humanitarian cooperation was also on the agenda. Marianna Shchetkina asked her Chinese colleagues to support the opening of a correspondent office of China Central Television broadcaster in Minsk. According to her, this would give China's citizens an opportunity to learn more about Belarus. It will also contribute to the tourist flow to Belarus, and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in general.

The parties also discussed cooperation between the Belarusian Union of Women and the All-China Women's Federation. The public associations intend to conclude a cooperation agreement and contribute to the development of the bilateral relations.

In 2016, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping signed the joint declaration on establishing relations of trustful comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation, which opened a new epoch for the relations between the countries. It is characterized by enhanced cooperation in all dimensions, including the parliamentary one.

Shen Yueyue pointed out that China is ready to join efforts with Belarus and implement all the agreements reached by the heads of the states. She expressed confidence that women's organizations of Belarus and China will establish successful cooperation.
