Belarus' Investigative Committee, UN Office on Drugs and Crime to intensify cooperation

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) - The Belarusian Investigative Committee hosted a delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime led by Dr Zhannat Kosmukhamedova, the head of the Regional Program Office for Eastern Europe, BelTA learned from the information and public relations department at the Investigative Committee.

The participants of the meeting noted the importance of international cooperation between law enforcement agencies in uncovering and investigating various crimes, especially drug-related crime.

Dr Zhannat Kosmukhamedova thanked the participants of the meeting and hailed the cooperation of Belarus with the Regional Program Office in the field of countering drug trafficking. She also informed the Belarusian partners about the activities of UNODC to disseminate international best practices in the field of primary prevention of drug use.

Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee Sergei Azemsha briefed the meeting participants about the interaction of the Investigative Committee with public associations in prevention of drug use.

The parties discussed the possible new forms and methods of further cooperation between the Investigative Committee and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, including in launching the relevant educational programs in the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of the Investigative Committee.

The parties agreed to maintain working contacts in order to promptly resolve issues of mutual interest, and also confirmed commitment to exchanging positive international experience.
