MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) - The Interior Ministry has been working to develop partnership relations between law enforcement officers and ordinary citizens, Belarus' Interior Minister Igor Shunevich said in an interview with BelTA.
Talking about the ways to improve the image of the police, the Minister said that this recipe is very simple and is based on the formula “An interior officer is a citizen of the Republic of Belarus.” “Only a partnership between a man in uniform and an ordinary citizen will help us improve the image of the police,” Igor Shunevich noted.
“The policeman is the first official we address when in trouble. Today we actively promote our closeness to people and partnership in the field of protection of citizens' rights, protection of people against crime,” the Minister noted.
In view of the preparations for the 5th Belarusian People's Congress, Igor Shunevich summed up the main results of the past five years for the system of the interior. “During this period, the law enforcement bodies have been able to ensure more sustainable development of the state, to protect our citizens and the interests of the state against crime so that the country could develop steadily and dynamically, feel protected,” he noted.
“Certainly, there is a lot of work ahead of us. We have been developing steadily. But I would like to stress that the tasks set before us by our people and the President are met in full,” the minister noted.
