Belarus interested in British experience in countering illegal migration

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) - Belarus' Internal Affairs Ministry is interested in the British experience in establishing the identity of illegal migrants, Internal Affairs Minister Yuri Karayev said as he met with UK Ambassador to Belarus Jacqueline Perkins, BelTA learned from the press service of the Internal Affairs Ministry.

The minister offered to strengthen and expand cooperation with the British police in various areas of law enforcement.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus is interested in establishing closer contacts with British law enforcement agencies to exchange information about persons involved in IT crime,” Yuri Karayev stressed. “The Belarusian side is also willing to share its experience and to establish cooperation to effectively counter the drug threat,” he added.

The experience of British colleagues in the field of establishing the identity of illegal migrants and analysis of migration risks are of particular interest to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. “Best practices in ensuring security during mass sporting events would be useful for us too,” Yuri Karayev said.

Ambassador Jacqueline Perkins reaffirmed readiness to expand cooperation, exchange experience in areas such as countering human trafficking, cybercrime, and illegal migration.
