Belarus in favor of closer cooperation in science in EAEU

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) - Belarus is in favor of closer cooperation in science, technology and innovations in the EAEU, including as part of Eurasian Technology Platforms, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology Aleksandr Shumilin said as he met with Artak Kamalyan, Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture at the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), BelTA learned from the press service of the State Committee on Science and Technology.

Now work is underway to agree on the documents for the period up to 2025, such as the draft strategic guidelines for the development of Eurasian economic integration and the draft main areas of industrial cooperation in the EAEU. "The State Committee on Science and Technology fully supports the inclusion of measures and mechanisms in these drafts that will contribute to the development of scientific and technological progress, joint research, projects and programs, as well as cooperation in green technologies,” Aleksandr Shumilin said.

He also noted that the EAEU Treaty lacks basic provisions on scientific and technological cooperation which would allow regulating the innovative interaction of the EAEU member states. “In this regard, I suggest revisiting the issues of introducing a separate article to the EAEU Treaty defining the areas of cooperation between the member countries in the scientific, technological and innovative areas,” Aleksandr Shumilin noted.

The EAEU has formed the Eurasian Technology Platforms in various areas. Thanks to one of the platforms, Belarusian, Russian and Kazakhstan organizations are engaged in join development of competitive services and geo-information products based on the integrated information on the Earth's surface and subsoil. The EurasiaBio platform suggests developing joint biotechnology projects for effective use in the interests of science, education, industries, social sector and for public needs. Another example is the project to launch the production of LED lighting equipment, which involved organizations and companies from Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
