Belarus implementing 12 research projects with Lithuania, Latvia

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – Belarus is implementing 12 joint projects with Lithuania and Latvia in healthcare, pharmacy, information and communications technology, and ecology, First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee Andrei Kosovsky said at the opening of the Belarusian-Baltic Forum headlined as Cooperation is the Catalyst for Innovative Growth, BelTA has learned.

“In line with the agreements on cooperation in science with Lithuania and Latvia, this year we have held contests of joint science projects in promising areas. We have selected projects for implementation in 2019-2020,” Andrei Kosovsky said.

These are projects in healthcare, photonics, and laser technology; pharmacy and industrial biotechnology; information and communication technology; innovative technologies in agriculture; ecology, resource- and energy-saving technologies, the press service of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee noted. “Belarus is implementing eight projects with Lithuania and four projects with Latvia,” the press service added.

Belarusian educational and scientific institutions effectively cooperate with foreign universities and tech parks. However, Andrei Kosovsky believes that this is not enough. The aim of the forum is to bolster ties between scientific and commercial organizations of Belarus and the Baltic states.

The forum is designed to help its participants stay involved in sci-tech cooperation, and to establish and strengthen long-term relations. “We should pool efforts in order to create mutually beneficial conditions to commercialize R&D products, manufacture innovative products, especially high-tech products, and produce synergistic effect in cooperation,” Andrei Kosovsky said.

The Belarusian-Baltic Forum will enable its participants to evaluate long-term prospects of cooperation in education, science and business, to outline strategic areas of joint research and development and cooperation forms that will prove particularly effective for the social sphere and economy of the parties.
