Belarus identifies research and innovation priorities till 2025

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – The draft decree “On priority avenues for research, R&D and innovation for 2021-2025” was discussed at a session of the Public Advisory Board for Promoting Technology-Driven and Innovative Entrepreneurship. The session was led by Chairman of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee Aleksandr Shumilin, BelTA learned from the press service of the committee.

In line with the document, these priorities include science-driven information and communication technology, digital and interdisciplinary technology; life sciences (cutting-edge technologies in biology, chemistry, medicine, and pharmaceutics); power engineering, environment and sustainable management of natural resources; mechanical engineering and innovative materials; agricultural and food technology; security of human beings, society and the state.

These priorities are based on the comprehensive forecast of the country's sci-tech development for 2021-2025 and for the period till 2040. This forecast was compiled by the State Science and Technology Committee.

“The president's draft decree that is under discussion today will allow concentrating public resources on implementing the most important and promising research and innovation projects for our country,” Aleksandr Shumilin emphasized. He noted that the efforts taken by the state and the academic and expert communities will contribute to sustainable innovative development of the country.

After the scrutiny, the Public Advisory Board for Promoting Technology-Driven and Innovative Entrepreneurship approved the draft decree at large.

The establishment of the Public Advisory Board for Promoting Technology-Driven and Innovative Entrepreneurship was approved by the State Science and Technology Committee. The board includes representatives of government agencies and public associations (the National Union of Employers BelSN, the National Entrepreneurship Confederation, Innovative Instrument-Making Association), business people, heads of tech parks and innovative companies (Adani, Technolit, EnCata, etc).
