Belarus finishes on top at Sniper Frontier event

BREST, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarus won the Sniper Frontier competition at the Army Games 2019, the head of the jury, Deputy Force Commander of Special Operations of the Armed Forces of Belarus Vladimir Belyi told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The jury summed up the results of the competition. Kazakhstan is third; the Russian Federation took the second place. The gold went to the host – Team Belarus,” Vladimir Belyi said. He noted that all the teams prepared thoroughly for the Sniper Frontier. “The skills have improved tremendously. When comparing individual exercises, stages, we can say that the progress is significant. Sniper pairs skills have vaulted several notches,” Vladimir Belyi said.

Kazakhstan was third in sniper pairs, representatives of Belarus placed first and second. Russia is third in the individual standings, snipers from Belarus second and first. “We also held a repechage for the best mixed international sniper pair. The winners are snipers representing Uzbekistan and Serbia,” vladimir Belyi added.

The Sniper Frontier featured teams from 21 countries. It included individual and pairs competitions and the relay race.

Brest is also hosting the Polar Star competition at the Army Games 2019 among military special forces. Competing in the event are Belarus and Russia. Half of the trials is already over. The focus during the first phase was on the readiness check of special forces groups for a combat training mission. The second stage featured the servicemen make a 30-kilometer speed march and fulfill various mission objectives. The third stage was held on 13 August. The personnel of the special forces team competed in the exercise “Compass marching. Crossing a minefield”.

According to Belarusian team coach Nikolai Smekhovich, the competitors are showing high results. For the time being Belarusians are ahead, with three of the six stages over. “It is too early to say who will prevail. Much will be decided tonight when competitors engage in ‘Shooting in a special forces group, Object exercise'. The fifth stage ‘Shooting in a special forces group, Raid exercise' will be held tomorrow morning and will be followed by the sixth stage ‘Retreat upon task completion. Evacuation of special forces group',” Nikolai Smekhovich said.
