GRODNO, 19 April (BelTA) – Governor of Grodno Oblast, Belarus Vladimir Karanik presented the Belarusian experience of counteracting coronavirus infection at the conference ASEAN-China Governors/Mayors' Dialogue. Belarus joined the online conference held on Hainan Island in China, BelTA has learned.

The ASEAN-China Governors/Mayors' Dialogue is one of the sections of the Asian Forum 2021 in Boao. It was attended by the regions of China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines, with representatives of Belarus and South Korea as special guests. Belarus was represented at this large-scale forum for the first time. Grodno Oblast was invited to the event as a twin of Hainan Province. The regions signed the twinning agreement at the end of 2020.

The main topic of the presentations was the situation with coronavirus, as well as joint activities to respond to the challenges of the pandemic.

“We presented our experience in counteracting coronavirus infection, as well as planned approaches to joint actions in this direction. We discussed crucial issues - healthcare development, information technologies, improvement of logistics and transport communications, recovery of economies in the post-pandemic period. Everyone understands that the world will not be the same, and humanity must change in order to be better prepared for these global challenges. The forum has become a platform for analyzing the best practices, developing joint approaches that would help countries and regions recover as quickly as possible in the post-pandemic period,” said Vladimir Karanik.

“All participants recognized that global problems can only be solved by working together. At times, the reluctance of some to share information led to solutions being delayed. In this regard, our experience of cooperation with China was considered positive: the information exchange channel was established in the first days of the pandemic,” Vladimir Karanik added.

Information interaction, synchronization of vaccination programs, further development of effective therapy means, introduction of modern information technologies, restoration of tourism and logistics are also among the plans, scheduled for implementation by the results of the forum. These areas were included in the initiative signed by the participants of the conference.
