Belarus, Estonia sign agreement on pensions

MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Estonia agreed on the provision of pensions for citizens of the two states. The corresponding agreement was signed at the Belarusian Labor and Social Security Ministry, BelTA has learned.

The agreement on pensions became an important step in the development of international cooperation of the two countries in the sector. The document is designed to ensure the pension rights of the citizens who are living and working (worked) in Belarus and Estonia.

The document enshrines the proportional principle of financial responsibility of the states.

According to the agreement, the payment of insurance contributions will be made in accordance with the laws of the state where citizens work. Retirement, long service, and survivor's pensions will be assigned by each state in accordance with its legislation for the length of service the person gets on its territory and paid to the state where the person resides.

The agreement will take affect after all the internal procedures necessary for its entry into force are completed.

Belarus has already concluded similar international agreements with Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic.
