Belarus' Emergencies Ministry, UNICEF sign memorandum of understanding

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarus' Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky met with UNICEF Representative in Belarus Rustam Khaidarov, BelTA learned from the Emergencies Ministry.

The parties discussed topical issues of cooperation in civil protection, especially women and children. Vadim Sinyavsky thanked UNICEF for providing equipment for setting up temporary accommodation points for migrants. UNICEF in Belarus handed over a modular all-weather tent, a fan heater, an electric generator, folding beds and other necessary items. The equipment will be stored in Gomel Oblast. When necessary it can be moved to other regions.

Following the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding between the Emergencies Ministry and the Office of the United Nations Children's Fund in the Republic of Belarus. The document provides for cooperation in the field of preventing fire-related deaths among children, raising public awareness and public education for disaster reduction, improving facilities and resources of life safety centers.

The Emergencies Ministry and UNICEF in Belarus have been cooperating for many years in child injury and death prevention. They create joint advertising, social videos, information materials for children and parents. In addition, UNICEF in Belarus transfers high-tech equipment and software for the Emergencies Ministry's Safety Center in Novopolotsk. Emergencies officials also helped deliver oxygen concentrators purchased by the UN Children's Fund to hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic.
