Belarus' Emergencies Ministry approves requirements to NPP aging management program

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus' Emergencies Ministry has approved nuclear and radiation safety requirements to the aging management program for nuclear power plants. Relevant Resolution No. 61 of the Emergencies Ministry of 6 December 2018 has been officially posted on the national legal internet portal, BelTA has learned.

Aging management involves development, implementation and keeping the relevant program up to date. It is developed by an operating organization at a time when a nuclear power plant is launched into operation. The program must ensure the availability of required safety functions throughout the service life of a plant.

The document must be in sync with programs regulating safety, operational control, equipment management, maintenance, inspections and tests, safety assessment, etc.

The program should include activities to mitigate the effects of aging. If measures to mitigate them are not sufficient, then a decision is taken to change the reactor safe operation conditions or decommission the corresponding element.

The NPP aging management program is evaluated for efficiency at least once a year.

The resolution comes into force after its official publication.
