Belarus, Egypt to exchange information in customs matters

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – Chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee Yuri Senko met with Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority El Sayed Kamal Hassan Negm in Cairo, BelTA learned from the State Customs Committee.

Heads of the customs services discussed the development of cooperation between the two agencies, including steps to implement the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs affairs that was signed on 19 February. The aim of the document is to develop the legal framework for bilateral cooperation. It sets forth the main principles and forms of mutual assistance, the protocol of interaction in information exchange that could help uncover, prevent, and investigate offenses and crimes.

“Establishing trust-based and mutually beneficial relations between the customs services of our countries will undoubtedly contribute to advancing the Belarusian-Egyptian trade cooperation. The customs services are willing to engage in a close dialogue to create favorable conditions for foreign economic activities for the benefit of our countries,” Yuri Senko said.

The State Customs Committee noted that the meeting was another step towards strengthening ties and improving the work of the two agencies in transboundary shipments and information exchange in order to prevent illegal trafficking of goods, narcotics, and psychotropic substances.
