MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – The Education Ministry has urged Belarusians not to turn educational institutions into political battlegrounds. The statement was posted in the Telegram channel of the ministry, BelTA has learned.
“Telegram has let out a stream of invectives against Belarusian teachers recently. People post teachers' personal information as well as calls to send them threats. In addition to that, there are regional chats set up to bully teachers. These chats consist of protest movement activists. This is done to build up pressure and intimidate teachers. There are attempts to provoke and arrange offline bullying,” the post reads.
The Education Ministry noted that all these actions have an obvious goal – to disrupt preparations for the new academic year. “Nevertheless, Belarusian teachers are performing their duties in a fair, decent and conscientious manner. We call against turning educational institutions into political battlegrounds and against dragging children into these activities,” the ministry added.
