Belarus eager to advance cooperation in science with Czechia, Thailand, Bolivia

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus intends to sign new international agreements in the area of science and innovations with Czechia, Thailand, and Bolivia in 2019. It will expand cooperation of Belarusian research and innovation organizations with partners from these countries. It will also give an opportunity to explore new markets for exporting Belarusian science-intensive and high-technology products. Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Alexander Shumilin mentioned the plans at a session of the committee's board, the committee's press service told BelTA.

Efforts will be poured into developing a single system of state science and technology expert evaluation in Belarus in 2019. The State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus has put together a draft Council of Ministers resolution to amend the effective legislation in order to optimize state expert evaluation procedures. Plans have been made to expand functionality and make transition to digital workflow by means of a united computerized information and analysis system. It will make the procedure simpler and will make document flow more transparent in addition to making evaluation work faster.

Work will continue to create technological clusters in large district capitals. Plans have been made to set up innovative platforms in Orsha, Borisov, Baranovichi, Bobruisk, Lyakhovichi, and other towns and cities.

Apart from that, there are plans to continue supporting the development of inventions and efficiency-improving solutions. Efforts will be poured into the development of an intellectual property market. Plans have been made to train employees of companies how to manage intellectual property like professionals. There are plans to carry out patent research in the course of R&D work, the implementation of innovation and investment projects. The number of deals with intellectual property objects (license agreements, assignment agreements) is expected to increase.

In 2019 the share of shipped innovative products in the total volume of shipped products is expected to increase up to 19.5% (18.6% in 2018), the share of innovation-active organizations – up to 25% (23.2%), the share of export of science-intensive and high-tech products in the total volume of Belarusian export – up to 34% (33.3%). Plans have been made to create about 3,000 high-performance jobs.
