Belarus drafting framework agreement on cooperation in customs affairs with EU

MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) – Belarus is drafting a framework agreement on cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs affairs with the European Union, BelTA learned from the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

“A representative of the State Customs Committee in Brussels is holding consultations with the EU representatives to harmonize approaches to the draft agreement,” the committee said. Moreover, the official representative of the State Customs Committee in Belgium took an active part in drawing up the new Belarus-EU action plan in customs affairs for 2020-2023. The first meeting of the project team is scheduled for December 2020.

The State Customs Committee noted that official representatives of the Belarusian customs abroad are working hard to advance international cooperation. More than 20 Belarusian enterprises have gained access to the Chinese market this year with direct involvement of the official representative of the State Customs Committee in China. In addition, representative of the Belarusian customs assists Belarusian manufacturers with easy and fast customs clearance of their cargo at the Chinese customs. “This spring we organized a shipment of humanitarian aid (medical goods) to Belarus. Professional experience and efficient cooperation of all parties enabled us to supply cargo from China promptly,” the committee noted.

Apart from active cooperation with national customs agencies and international organizations, representatives of the State Customs Committee aim to attract international technical assistance to Belarus.
