Belarus' CEC opines on public involvement in legislative process

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Ivan Tolkach, Deputy Head of the Department for Legal, Analytical and Methodological Work of the Office of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Belarus, shared his opinion on the importance of public involvement in the legislative told BelTA.

“An active information campaign was held during the preparations for the referendum. It continues now when the country is discussing laws to elaborate on the provisions of the Constitution. In other words, in addition to the dialogue platform and public discussions, our society is getting widely involved in the legislative process. I believe that this is what we should have focused on more actively in 2020. It is important to make sure that our society knows the country's fundamental documents, understands the complex nature and scale of the public administration system, and all the mechanisms that were developed to run the state,” Ivan Tolkach said.

He added: “Knowing all these things, a citizen will never support any kind of color revolution, extremism and other similar manifestations. A citizen will understand that the only possible path of development is an evolutionary path.”
