Belarus' Brest Oblast receives batch of Chinese COVID-19 vaccines

BREST, 25 March (BelTA) – A batch of the Chinese vaccine against COVID-19 has been delivered to Brest Oblast, BelTA learned from the Brest Oblast Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Public Health.

“Brest Oblast received 10,496 doses of the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine. They will be given to employees of educational institutions, social facilities, and residential care facilities. This vaccine is inactivated and can be administered to people aged 18 and older,” the center pointed out.

The vaccine is administered in two doses with the 21-28-day interval between the shots. Coronavirus survivors can get vaccinated 3-6 months after recovery. According to specialists, it takes some time for immunity to start developing after vaccination. Immune responses to the virus reach full strength three weeks after the second shot. Patients should undergo medical examination ahead of getting the vaccine, after which doctors decide whether a patient is eligible for vaccination.

Residents of Brest Oblast can get vaccinated in polyclinics. “So far, there are no data whether the vaccine prevents asymptomatic cases. This is why even after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, people should continue taking all safety measures: wearing face masks, washing hands more often, and observing social distancing,” the Brest Oblast Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Public Health added.
