Belarus, Azerbaijan urged to step up cooperation in tourism

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Azerbaijan need to enhance cooperation in tourism, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Belarus Latif Gandilov said as he attended a presentation of Azerbaijan's tourism industry on 13 November, BelTA has learned.

Ambassador Latif Gandilov hailed Belarus' successes in recent years, especially its contribution to the peace talks in the region. Belarus and Azerbaijan have established cooperation in politics, economy, and culture. Friendly relationship between the leaders of the two countries facilitates the development of Belarus-Azerbaijan dialogue. However, the ambassador noted that ties in tourism are still rather weak. He believes that Belarus is an appealing travel destination for Azerbaijanis, and vice versa. Holding events featuring Belarusian and Azerbaijani travel companies will help strengthen ties in tourism.

The presentation showcased historic and natural sites and tourism infrastructure of Azerbaijan. The participants of the event told about skiing resorts and the use of naftalan at Azerbaijani health resorts.

There is direct air service between the two countries. The Minsk-Baku-Minsk flight is operated five times a week. In 2018, around 20,000 passengers used the flight.
