Belarus attends Atomexpo forum in Sochi

SOCHI, 15 April (BelTA) – The 11th International Forum Atomexpo is running in Sochi on 15-16 April, BelTA has learned.

The events are attended by a Belarusian delegation headed by Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk. The delegation also includes Deputy Emergencies Minister Anatoly Dolgolevets, head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry Olga Lugovskaya, Director General of the Belarusian NPP Mikhail Filimonov.

This year's forum is held under the motto Nuclear For Better Life. The two-day business program includes plenary and panel discussions, roundtables, presentations, exhibition and a number of other activities. Representatives of Belarusian delegation are set to attend the opening of the forum and see the exhibition, among the participants of which is the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, participate in thematic roundtables on nuclear infrastructure, sustainable development goals, carbon-free generation, personnel training, public acceptance of nuclear energy and other topics. The Belarusian delegation is set to hold talks with the State Corporation Rosatom and other business partners.

The exhibition presents a wide range of applications of nuclear technology. The exhibition area is more than 13,000 sq.m. “The theme of the Belarusian NPP stand this year is Energy of Creation. This is the fifth time the Belarus NPPhas taken part in the forum. The Belarusian stand tells about the history of the construction of the plant and the development of the town of Ostrovets, the town of power engineers,” the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry said.

The 2nd Atomexpo Awards ceremony is scheduled for the opening day, 15 April. Atomexpo Awards is an international professional award for outstanding services of world industry companies that have made significant contributions to the development of the nuclear industry and the use of atomic energy for the benefit of humanity. Last year, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant won in the nomination "Best Launch".

The Atomexpo International Forum was first held in 2009 on the initiative of Rosatom State Corporation. More than 4,000 delegates and guests from 68 countries took part in last year's forum (there were 65 of them in 2017, and 55 in 2016). The exposition totaled the area of more than 20,000 square meters (12,000 square meters in 2017). The total number of participating companies exceeded 600. On the sidelines of the Atomexpo 2018, participants concluded 39 agreements and other documents on cooperation and partnership, including commercial agreements. Atomexpo is an organizer of the event.
