Be-La-Rus youth camp to promote interregional contacts

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The international summer camp Be-La-Rus should become a platform for interregional contacts, First Secretary of the BRSM Youth Union Central Committee Dmitry Voronyuk told BelTA.

“This year Belarus will assume the rotating function of the main organizer of the youth camp Be-La-Rus. Last year we decided to change its format. We have already held talks with one of our partners, the Russian Union of Youth and have discussed the program of camp's activities. This project should become a platform for interregional contacts. One of the major topics of the forum will be the 75th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the Nazi invaders,” Dmitry Voronyuk said.

According to him, this will be the 28th youth meeting near the Mound of Friendship. This year, the camp will focus on its educational function. “This is a good opportunity for youth organizations of the three countries to exchange experience and present their developments. We will invite interesting speakers to the camp. It is important to make sure that such meetings generate certain solutions, initiatives, projects which could be implemented in Belarus, Latvia, Russia in the future,” Dmitry Voronyuk noted. “Young people are our future leaders, politicians, heads of companies and organizations. And if they build the relations of friendship and mutual respect from the beginning, then the policies of the three countries will be also based on friendship, mutual respect, and trust.”

The international youth camp Be-La-Rus was set up in 1992. The camping site is situated in Verkhnedvinsk District of Belarus in a forest meadow near the historical site of the Mound of Friendship which was erected in 1959 to commemorate the military union of partisans from Belarus, Latvia, and Russia. The project aims to boost cooperation between the youth of the three countries, to help them realize their potential in art, sport, education, and to promote the exchange of experience between heads of youth organizations.

The youth camp is organized by the BRSM Youth Union, the Youth Progress Union of Latvia, and the Russian Union of Youth.
