Batch of Russian COVID-19 test systems delivered to Belarus

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – A Russian humanitarian cargo containing test systems for COVID-19 diagnostics has been delivered to Belarus, the press service of the Healthcare Ministry told BelTA.

Belarusian Deputy Healthcare Minister, Chief Sanitary Inspector Aleksandr Tarasenko said that the Russian consumer rights and human wellbeing oversight agency Rospotrebnadzor had sent about 30,000 test kits to Belarus. These test systems will be used in Minsk.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev stressed that the aid provided to the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry represented another step that reaffirmed special relations between the two countries. “It is support for the huge work Belarus is doing to fight COVID-19,” he said.

The ambassador thanked the Belarusian side for registering the Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V. In his words, deliveries till March have been determined already. The production of the Russian vaccine is supposed to start in Belarus in February.

As of 5 January a total of over 4 million tests to detect the new coronavirus have been done in Belarus.
