Baranovichi might twin with Romanian town

BREST, 16 November (BelTA) – A delegation of two Romanian cities - Ramnicu Valcea and Petrosani are on a visit to Baranovichi to forge partner ties, BelTA learned from Chairman of the City Council of Deputies Grigory Kosobutsky.

The official delegation includes senior officials of the two cities located in Valcea County and Hunedoara County in the southwestern part of Romania. “This is a return visit. Upon the invitation of the Romanian side our delegation visited the city of Ramnicu Valcea in the summer to present social and economic potential of Baranovichi. The municipal authorities said they wanted to establish closer contacts and sign a twin-town agreement. The heads of municipal administrations of the two Romanian cities came here to discuss these matters,” Grigory Kosobutsky said.

The meeting took place at the Baranovichi City Executive Committee and was attended by representatives of local companies. The parties shared views on cooperation prospects. The Romanian delegation visited a number of local enterprises and Baranovichi State University where it discussed a possibility of enrolling Romanian students.

“We have agreed that at first we will expand cooperation in some areas, like culture, education and industry. After that it will make sense to sign a partnership agreement. The Romanian partners have a sincere interest in it. However, this interest is mutual. Our companies want to increase export, the city welcomes foreign investment. We need to look for common areas of interest,” Grigory Kosobutsky said.

The Romanian delegation will stay in Belarus till 17 November. On 16 November the delegation will be taken on an excursion to Minsk.
