MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Minsk can host negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine with the mediation of the Vatican, Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Belarus, Archbishop Ante Jozic told the media, BelTA has learned.

The question was a follow-up to the recent statement by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin that the Vatican could be a suitable place to host negotiators for talks about Ukraine. The Apostolic Nuncio to Belarus was asked whether, in his opinion, Minsk could be such a venue for Ukraine peace talks brokered by the Vatican.

"Minsk has previously been the center of negotiations and the place where even treaties were signed. I think it will be possible in the future," Ante Jozic said.

He said that during a conversation in September of this year, the Pope noted the readiness, his personal readiness and that of the Roman Catholic Church, to provide the necessary conditions for the parties to achieve an early peaceful resolution of the conflict: to provide the territory, premises, to organize a meeting of representatives of the parties. “The Vatican will also exert its influence, as far as possible, on Christian countries, especially where the authorities are Christians, Catholics, to find any peaceful solution to this crisis, to help people survive this moment and return to normal life in unity and peace," the Apostolic Nuncio said.
