Another refugee family stranded on Belarus-Poland has baby

GRODNO, 1 February (BelTA) - Another child was born to the refugees temporarily living in an accommodation facility near the Belarusian-Polish border, BelTA learned from the Grodno Regional Clinical Perinatal Center.

The boy was born on 28 January. It was the third birth for the mother. The baby was delivered by caesarean section. "Both the mother and the newborn feel well. They are receiving proper care, and are provided with everything they need," the doctors said. Soon, the mother and child will be discharged from the hospital.

At first they will be living in the temporary accommodation room of the Red Cross. There, the mother and the baby will be provided with everything necessary, including medical assistance.

In early December, three refugees aged 17, 25 and 34 became mothers in the maternity hospital. For two of them, it was the first birth. Another gave birth for the second time. Two girls and a boy were born.

Refugees have been stranded at the Belarusian-Polish border for 86 days already. They are living in the temporary accommodation facility set up at the Bruzgi logistics hub near the border. At present, there are about 700 people there. There are many women and children among them.

Assistance to refugees in the logistics hub is provided in a routine mode, said Igor Gedich, a member of the Council of the Republic. They are provided with hot meals, grocery packages, and hygiene products. Near the logistics center there is a mobile bathhouse, doctors are on duty 24/7. More than 230 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including 175 tonnes of food, have been provided to the refugees. "Belarus has provided them with a humanitarian shelter. It provides protection to refugees and all the necessary assistance," the senator stressed. He noted that refugees do not want to return home: they are still hopeful that they will get to the EU countries.
