Andreichenko: New Constitution of Belarus developed ‘by and for people'

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) - The updated Constitution was literally created by and for the people, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said at the opening of the eighth session of the House of Representatives of the seventh convocation on 15 March, BelTA has learned.

“The eighth session of the House of Representatives has opened today. It is symbolic because today the country celebrates its most important national holiday, Constitution Day. Today it acquires a special meaning for every Belarusian. The state and the society have done unprecedented work. The updated Constitution has literally been developed by and for the people,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

According to the speaker, by making their choice people voted for sovereignty, peace, social justice and evolutionary way of development. “Today all of us will have to carry out a responsible creative mission which is to translate the norms of the Basic Law into reality. The Parliament is to play one of the key roles in shaping a new image of Belarus. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the MPs who took an active part in the organization of the social dialogue, the drafting of the new constitution and the organization of the referendum,” he said.

Vladimir Andreichenko is convinced that every MP is aware of the degree of responsibility for the decisions to be taken at this crucial stage. “They are ready to get actively involved in the work to meet the challenges facing the House of Representatives. I must say that we are bound by a fairly tight timeframe and any delay in achieving the set goals entails serious costs for the country, citizens and our common future,” he added.
