MINSK, 1 January (BelTA) – The United States of America no longer sees Russia as a threat to its own security and as a threat to Europe. The political analyst, military expert, and former Israeli state figure Yakov Kedmi made the relevant statement in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point.
“Statements by Trump and his closest aides indicate that the United States of America no longer sees Russia as a threat to its own security. Furthermore, the United States does not believe that Russia poses a threat to Europe. And since Russia does not pose a threat to them, Americans want to build relations with Russia on the basis of national interests,” said Yakov Kedmi.
According to the political analyst, the USA’s national interests are focused, among other things, on the Arctic. He stressed that Washington invites Moscow to jointly develop mineral resources over there. “By doing so, Americans will strengthen both their own economy and the Russian economy. After all, the Russian economy does not pose a threat to the United States. Russia is not going to put economic pressure on the USA. The Russian economy is self-sufficient,” Yakov Kedmi believes.
The analyst noted that Donald Trump believes that cooperation with the Russian economy will only be beneficial. “When this concept comes into force, everything else is of secondary importance from the USA’s point of view. Not only Ukraine but also Europe disappears from the map of the USA interests,” he said.
Yakov Kedmi explained that the U.S. presence in Europe since 1945 had been necessary due to fears of the possible rise to power of communists in Italy and France. It was in these countries that the most advanced communist parties were located. To avoid such a scenario, the USA began implementing the Marshall Plan. Apart from that, the analyst added, Washington saw an opportunity to deal with the Soviet Union in this way and bring it to collapse.
“American national interests were focused on absolute world domination. Today it is no longer true. If Russia does not pose a threat or danger to the United States, then everything changes,” Yakov Kedmi explained the change in the USA’s foreign policy.
