2nd European Games airspace now closed to unauthorized drones

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The prohibition against flying unauthorized unmanned aerial vehicles in venues of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 is now in effect. Violators will have their drones confiscated by police to be returned after 2 July, representatives of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry told BelTA.

On 17 June – 2 July unauthorized unmanned aerial vehicles and model aircraft cannot be flown in sport venues and other places where the competitions are supposed to take place. Drones are also forbidden in fan zones and near hotels and other places meant to accommodate guests and participants of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. Drones used by government agencies and drones officially used in the course of the games are an exception.

“If you don't have an official permit to fly a drone, police officers have the right to seize it and return it to the owner after 2 July. All unauthorized flights will be grounded. The cost of shot-down drones will not be reimbursed. Apart from that, courts may force violators to pay damages to the person, whose property gets damaged by a falling drone,” representatives of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry told BelTA.

The source also reminded that unmanned aerial vehicles and drones cannot be brought into Belarus without a license and a permit to shoot footage. Foreign guests are advised to obtain the relevant permits from the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus in advance.

The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 200 medal events in 15 sports.
