18th-century palace auctioned off in Grodno

GRODNO, 26 May (BelTA) – A palace complex built in the 18th century was sold for Br1.7 million in Grodno, BelTA reports.

The palace belonged to the Czetwertynski princely family. It is located in Gilibert Park in the center of Grodno. The palace was rebuilt and changed owners several times over its history. After the Second World War up to 2014 it housed a military police unit. Now the palace stays idle. The three-storey building is nearly 2,000 m2 big and has the status of a historical and cultural value.

Four bidders took part in the auction. The opening price – Br657,000 – rose more than 2.5 during the auction. The palace was purchased by Grodno Amusement Park. “We are located in Gilibert Park and we need to expand. It is premature to talk about any specific plans, however we have many ideas about it. The palace will become a tourist draw. Its historical look will be preserved,” Director of Grodno Amusement Park Pavel Kovalevich said.
