11,500 Ukrainians enter Belarus since early March

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – Since early March, 11,500 citizens of Ukraine have entered Belarus, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee.

From 1 March to 1 April 11,563 citizens of Ukraine arrived in Belarus. 8,291 people passed from the Ukrainian territory to Belarus. Another 3,032 people came to Belarus transiting through Poland. 194 Ukrainians passed in transit through Lithuania, and 46 through Latvia.

From 6.00 on 31 March to 6.00 on 1 April, 748 citizens of Ukraine arrived in Belarus across the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. 173 people passed in transit through Poland, 4 through Lithuania.

The State Border Committee recalled that Belarus Red Cross Society, in cooperation with the Emergencies Ministry, deployed mobile heating points in Gomel Oblast near the village of Gden, the Poddobryanka border checkpoint and the Novaya Guta border checkpoint. With an aim of providing timely assistance on the ground, rescuers, medical workers and volunteers of the Red Cross are on duty 24/7. In order to help people return to the place of permanent residence Belarus waived visas for foreign citizens entering from Ukraine. The visa waiver will be in force till 15 April.

Belarusian checkpoints are operating in a routine mode, the committee said.
