MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – The 2020 Wanda Diamond League meeting in Shanghai, China has been postponed to 2021, BelTA learned from the official website of World Athletics.
The meeting in Shanghai has become the seventh athletic event canceled this season. The Diamond League meetings in Eugene (the United States), London (the UK), Paris (France), Rabat (Morocco), Gateshead (the UK) and also one more meeting in China have been canceled. The new host for the event instead of Shanghai will be announced in the near future.
The 2020 Wanda Diamond League will not be a structured series of events leading to a final as is usually the case. There will not be a single, 24-discipline final in Zurich as originally planned. The reason for such a decision is the current discrepancies in training and travel opportunities, impossibility to ensure a level playing field and a fair qualification system during 2020.
