Sasnovich into 2020 Australian Open doubles round two

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Viktoria Kuzmova of Slovakia won the 2020 Australian Open first round in the women's doubles event, defeating the Australian duo of Alexandra Bozovic and Amber Marshall in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 on 22 January, BelTA has learned.

Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka, teamed up with Belgium's Elise Mertens, will face the U.S.-Czech tandem of Catherine Bellis and Marketa Vondrousova.

In the singles Aliaksandra Sasnovich (World No.94) and Aryna Sabalenka (12) both lost their first-round matches.

In the men's singles round one, Belarus' world number 98 Egor Gerasimov defeated world number 48 Casper Ruud of Norway to secure a second-round berth against world number 7 Alexander Zverev from Germany.

In the round of Last 64 of the men's doubles event Belarus' Andrei Vasilevski and Russia's Andrei Rublev lost to the Australian duo of Max Purcell and Luke Saville 3-6, 2-6.
