MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens of Belgium could not make it into the 2020 WTA Shenzhen Open Doubles semi-final, BelTA has learned.
On 8 January they lost their quarterfinal match against Japan's Misaki Doi and Romania's Monica Niculescu 5-7, 4-6. Earlier, they eased past Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine and Lidziya Marozava of Belarus 6-3, 7-5 in the Shenzhen opener.
Earlier defending Shenzhen Open champion Aryna Sabalenka dismissed Russian qualifier Margarita Gasparyan, 6-3, 6-0, but lost to unseeded Kristyna Pliskova of Czechia 4-6, 4-6.
The Shenzhen Open will conclude on 11 January.
