MOSCOW, 26 August (BelTA) – Russia has lifted the coronavirus-related restrictions on access to the country for foreign athletes, coaches and sport specialists. The relevant executive order was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, BelTA learned from the press service of the Russian government.

“Since March 2020, due to the spread of coronavirus, foreign athletes could not come to Russia. In May, restrictions were lifted for those who had signed an employment contract with a Russian organization. Today to enter the country one needs an identity document and a visa, the type of which corresponds to the purpose of travel,” the press service said.

This decision will simplify border crossing for those who participate in international competitions, including professional sports leagues. “The order also removes restrictions on travel of foreign athletes through road, rail and other checkpoints,” the press service added.
