MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – The Minsk City Hall has posted on its official Telegram channel images of how a new swimming pool of the international level in Minsk will look like, BelTA has learned.
“The accent in the architectural concept of the new sport facility will be made on the national symbols of Belarus. The colors of the state flag and elements of the Belarusian ornament will be used in its design. The main facade will be made in the shape of five connected rhombuses, which resemble Belarusian patterns and famous Chinese knots. According to the architectural plan, the building will symbolize the national traditions of the Belarusian people and friendship between the two countries,” the Minsk City Hall said.
The facility will be built at the site of the former printing house (near Molodezhnaya metro station) with the help of gratuitous technical and economic assistance from China in accordance with the technical requirements of the International Swimming Federation (FINA). The construction site is currently being prepared. It is expected that the construction of the new sport center will be launched in Q3 2020. The works will be completed by the end of 2023.
According to Minsk chief architect Olga Radchenko, the sport facility will be used to host both national competitions and international championships in swimming, platform diving, synchronized swimming and water polo. The new swimming pool will be the venue for Belarusian athletes to train and for all the residents to enjoy swimming. The sport center will accommodate 6,000 fans during competitions.
The sport facility will be about 30m high, and will occupy the area of 40,000 square meters. Inside, the facility will be divided into three zones: for competitions, recuperation, warm-up and training. The facility will have five pools: for the main competitions, platform diving, warm-up, swimming lessons for children, and a pool in the spa center. There will also be a gym and training halls.
Minsk residents and visitors will be able to recreate in a sports park that will be located next to the sport center. Here there will be space to skateboard, sunbathe on a sandy beach, stroll or go jogging.
