MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) decided to cancel the 2020 FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup due to the COVID-19 situation, BelTA has learned.
The event was scheduled to take place in Antwerp, Belgium on 24-26 September. Due to the prolongation of anti-virus measures in Belgium and a number of other countries, FIBA jointly with Basketball Belgium took a decision to cancel the tournament. The Belarusian women's national team, bronze medalists of the 2nd European Games 2019, were to play at the tournament.
The Belarusian national team and U23 team under the tutelage of Yuri Volk are holding a training camp in Minsk. The team includes Anastasiya Sushchyk, Darya Mahalias, Natallia Dashkevich, Maryna Ivashchanka, Hanna Lappo and Katsiaryna Karpuk. Last weekend the team played at the fourth round of Palova 2020. The final is scheduled for 5 September. In autumn the Belarusian U23 team is to take part in the first CIS Games in Kazan, Russia. The country's national team will compete at the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Austria in May 2021.
