MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – FC BATE Borisov have parted ways with head coach Aleksei Baga upon the expiration of the contract, BelTA learned from the press service of the football club.

Aleksei Baga joined the coaching staff of FC BATE Borisov in 2011, assisted Viktor Goncharenko, Aleksandr Yermakovich and Oleg Dulub. He replaced Oleg Dulub as head coach in early June 2018. Aleksei Baga led his team to the champion title and also to the Europa League round of Last 32 where FC BATE edged London's Arsenal 1-0. The team, however, failed to advance to the UEFA autumn stage and placed second in the Belarusian Football Championship.

“It was a difficult decision for the club not to extend the contract with Aleksei Baga who dedicated many years to the Borisov football club as a player. Nevertheless, the decision was made and we hope it will be the right one for both sides. We have no doubt that Aleksei Anatolievich [Baga] will soon get a job offer that meets his high professional level and ambitions. FC BATE, together with their devoted fans, is entering a new stage of development, making a certain reloading and looking forward with confidence and optimism. We sincerely thank Aleksei Baga for his contribution to the achievements of the football team,” the press service said.

A new head coach of FC BATE will be announced later.
