European Youth Olympic Festival to be held in 2022

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) - The Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Banska Bystrica in Slovakia will be held on 24-30 July 2022, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

This decision was made by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the organizing committee of the festival.

The European Youth Olympic Festival was supposed to be held from 25 to 31 July 2021. However, the dates of the festival overlapped with the Tokyo Olympics, which is scheduled to take place from 23 July to 8 August. In this connection, the festival has been postponed for a year.

The 2021 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival will be held in Vuokatti, Finland between 6 and 13 February 2021.

At the previous summer festival in Baku in 2019, Belarusian athletes won 14 awards (six gold, two silver and six bronze).

The European Youth Olympic Festival is a regional multi-sport event for youth athletes from the 50 member countries of the association of European Olympic Committees. Summer and winter festivals are held every two years. The idea for the competition came from IOC member Jacques Rogge.
