MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Belarusian boxers are back in Minsk from the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament in London, coach of the Belarusian national boxing team Sergei Asanov told BelTA.

"Belarusian boxing athletes have arrived in Minsk. Everything is fine, athletes are in a good mood. Now we are under medical observation. We will spend the next 14 days in quarantine near Minsk where we will continue training in a routine mode. The first week will be recuperating, and then we will start bringing boxers to their peak form. There is no panic, and we are ready to work to make it to the Olympics in Tokyo."

As it has been reported, due to the risk of coronavirus infection, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to hold the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament without spectators. The boxing tournament was stopped on 16 March. It was rescheduled for May. The American and World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments were also postponed.

Belarus fielded Galina Bruyevich (57 kg), Mikhail Dauhaliavets (81kg), Aliaksandr Radzionau (69kg), Vitali Bandarenka (75kg) and Yulia Apanasovich (51kg), Alla Staradub (60 kg) and Anton Charnamaz (57kg). The organizers of the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament in London promised that all the results and the draw would be preserved if the competition was postponed to a later date.

The Belarusian national team in London included 10 athletes. The competition was scheduled to end on 24 March. The World Olympic Qualifying Tournament was scheduled for 13-24 May in Paris.
