Belarus win four medals at 2020 WUC Speed Skating in Amsterdam

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes clinched four medals at the 2020 FISU World University Speed Skating Championship in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, BelTA has learned.

Ignat Galavatsiuk claimed two silver medals in the 500m and 1,000m events. Both the events were won by Yamato Matsui of Japan. Bronze medals went to his teammate Wataru Morishige.

Viktor Rudenko of Belarus came third in the 1,500 event after Poland's Marcin Bachanek (winner) and Russia's Aleksandr Podolskij (silver).

The Belarusian team of Anna Kovaleva, Anna Nifontova and Yevgeniya Vorobyova finished after the Netherlands and Poland in the women's team event.

The competitions on the final day of the university championship have been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Netherlands has introduced a ban on mass events with the number of participants exceeding 100 people.
