Belarus beat Italy in Minsk 2019 opener

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Belarus women's 3x3 basketball team celebrated its first win at the ongoing 2nd European Games in Minsk on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

Belarus defeated Italy 21-7.

The Belarusians grabbed the initiative from the very beginning and held on to it throughout the match. Maryna Ivashchanka was named the best player of the match with 11 points. Natallia Dashkevich scored five points, Anastasiya Sushchyk – three and Darya Mahalias – two.

Elsewhere in Group A, Russia beat Serbia 15-9.

On 22 June, Yuri Volk's girls will face Russia at 16h50 and then Serbia at 19h05.

Group B features Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Germany. Group C comprises France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Andorra. Group D includes Estonia, Ukraine, Latvia, and Spain.

Belarus men's team will play their first match against Slovenia in Group C (17h05). The men's team led by Dmitry Koltukov comprises Mikita Meshcharakou, Andrei Rahozenka, Maksim Lutych, and Siarhei Vabishchevich. Belarus will face Slovenia, Lithuania and Estonia in Group C. Group A will feature Serbia, Romania, Poland, Andorra. Group B will consist of Russia, Ukraine, France and Italy. Group D will comprise Latvia, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Turkey.

Two best teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. The 3x3 basketball competitions are taking place at Palova Arena near Minsk Sports Palace on 21-24 June.
