Shapiro: Minsk Oblast will increase its contribution to government's goals

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – One of the top priorities for Minsk Oblast in the new five-year period will increase its contribution to help the government achieve the goals, Minsk Oblast Governor Semyon Shapiro said speaking at the oblast meeting of the delegates of the 5th Belarusian People's Congress on 9 June, BelTA has learned.

“A strategic goal of the Minsk Oblast regional policy for the forthcoming five-year period is the further improvement of people's living standards and an increase of the region's contribution to the achievement of the government policy objectives,” said Semyon Shapiro.

The Minsk Oblast Governor named the potential growth points for Minsk Oblast in 2016-2020. These are such areas as biochemistry, pharmaceutics, production of medical equipment, fine chemistry, tourism, car industry and electronics. Semyon Shapiro stressed that several companies had already launched projects which are important for the region. For instance, a plant is being built in Nesvizh to produce baby food. The plant will process 500 tonnes of milk a day. The mineral wax plant in Pukhovichi District will be a powerful innovative facility to produce highly purified mineral wax, oils and lubricants. The construction of a yeast plant in Slutsk continues. This export-oriented investment project will help secure the production of 20,000 tonnes of the product a year.

According to the governor, the construction of a car plant BelGee by mid 2019 will turn a new page in the history of the Belarusian mechanical engineering. Its capacity will be gradually increased to 120,000 cars a year. According to Semyon Shapiro, Slavkali will invest more than $1 billion in the construction of a mining and processing plant in Lyuban District.

The Minsk Oblast economic potential will be boosted by the efforts to attract foreign investments, enhance the efficient of the invested funds and improve the management of investment projects. Semyon Shapiro named the construction of the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park Great Stone as the biggest project in the oblast within the next five years. The construction of the park will help intensify trade, economic and investment cooperation with China, attract foreign and domestic investment in the development of high-technology and competitive manufacturing facilities. The works on the engineering infrastructure of the park will be completed by the end of 2016.

The agro-industrial sector of Minsk Oblast will focus on cattle breeding programs including the upgrading and construction of new production capacities, their technical re-equipment. Quality processing of meat and dairy products, sales and reducing prime costs by at least 25% are among top priorities as well. Measures are also needed to improve fodder production and the structure of areas under crops as well as cultivation technologies.

“In 2016-2020 there are plans to double farm produce sales to Br45 trillion and reach the level of profitability in sales of at least 10%,” said Semen Shapiro.

Semyon Shapiro also said that within the next five years four institutions of general secondary education will be built in Minsk Oblast. The plans also envisage the construction of 11 preschools. According to Semyon Shapiro, there is a set of events that will contribute to the sustainable development of healthcare, culture, physical education and sport sectors of the oblast.

The Minsk Oblast Governor has been nominated a delegate to the 5th Belarusian People's Congress. Semyon Shapiro will represent Dzerzhinsk District at the forum.
