More tourists cross Belarusian-Polish border in Augustow Canal area

GRODNO, 15 October (BelTA) – Passenger traffic via the Belarusian-Polish border checkpoint Lesnaya-Rudawka on the Augustow Canal rose by 18% in 2018, representatives of the Grodno Oblast branch of the Belarusian customs service told BelTA.

The seasonal border checkpoint Lesnaya-Rudawka was opened from May till 1 October 2018. Over 3,000 people crossed the border via the checkpoint, 18% up from the year before. As many as 43% of them were riding a bicycle while another 12% were travelling by motorboat, by boat, and by canoe.

According to the source, it is a popular tourist destination because visa-free tourists represent 60% of all the people, who cross the border via the Belarusian-Polish border checkpoint Lesnaya-Rudawka.

The checkpoint will resume operation in spring 2019.
