VITEBSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Eight people who have recovered from COVID-19 have donated blood plasma in Vitebsk Oblast, chief physician of the regional blood transfusion center Vladimir Plish told BelTA.
Three people donated blood plasma in Vitebsk on 21 April and five more on 5 May.
According to Vladimir Plish, a lot of coronavirus survivors have answered the call to donate blood plasma. However, not all of them can become donors due to their health condition and results of tests. The presence of antibodies in blood is very important in this case as they have a positive effect in treatment.
“We are grateful to everyone who volunteered to donate blood plasma. We turn nobody down, interview volunteers, ask whether they have any contraindications to donation, collect information from their polyclinics, and perform the necessary tests ourselves. Everything is under strict control as only a healthy person can become a donor,” Vladimir Plish stressed.
He also spoke about the use of personal protective equipment. “There is no reason to relax yet. The threat has not passed so I believe it is obligatory to follow safety measures, such as social distancing and wearing face masks and gloves in public places,” Vladimir Plish added.
