CSTO discusses agenda of UN General Assembly session

MOSCOW, 4 September (BelTA) – Representatives of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states have held routine consultations to discuss the agenda of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly by video conference, BelTA learned from CSTO spokesperson Vladimir Zainetdinov.

“The participants of the consultations have discussed in depth interaction of the CSTO member states during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly that will open in New York on 15 September. They emphasized the importance of joint work of the CSTO states in the UN to mobilize the international community in the face of global tensions and the spread of terrorism aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ultimate goal of these efforts is to fulfill the UN key task – to maintain peace, regional and global stability,” he said.

The participants also compared notes on such key issues, as developments in Afghanistan and around it, the participation of the CSTO in the UN peace-keeping efforts. “They also exchanged views on a number of draft joint statements that are to the passed by the CSTO member states during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly,” the spokesman said.

Taking part in the consultations were CSTO Deputy General Secretary Alymbay Sultanov, heads and senior experts of respective subdivisions of the foreign ministries of the CSTO member states and the CSTO Secretariat.
