BREST, 25 August (BelTA) – Do not turn educational institutions into platforms for political fights, Belarus Education Minister Igor Karpenko told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Let's not turn the school and educational institutions into political battlefields. Everybody have their opinion, everybody expressed it in their own way during the election. Do not turn this into a clash of opinions. All children should come to school and get equal access to high-quality education and social guarantees provided to children and teenagers by the government,” Igor Karpenko said.
The minister called on Belarusians to stop bullying attacks against school teachers. “Let's all calm down and cool down emotions. It is important that children should go to school peacefully and receive knowledge. Even more so, because the last quarter of the previous school year was difficult. Teachers need to see how well students learned the curriculum. Perhaps, they need to explain something again or in more detail to form the system of knowledge. Let's start the school year peacefully. Schools and teachers are ready. We ask parents for understanding in order to join efforts to educate and bring up our children,” he said.
The country is gearing up for the upcoming school year. Almost 96% of educational institutions have already got their readiness certificates. The rest will get them this week. In the run-up to 1 September, some schools have been overhauled or upgraded.
