MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – An attempt to penetrate the air space of Belarus has been made, BelTA learned from representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
Duty units of the Air Force and Air Defense Command stopped a provocation from the side of Lithuania near the populated locality of Volkovshchina, Oshmyany District, Grodno Oblast at about 19:30 on 23 August. A cluster of eight air balloons with anti-state symbols had been launched from the Lithuanian territory.
Belarusian Mi-24 helicopters stopped the flight of the air balloons without using weapons. The Defense Ministry prepared the relevant report and forwarded it to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that it could send a diplomatic note to the Lithuanian side.
