Sivak appointed Belarus' vice-premier

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Former Minsk Mayor Anatoly Sivak has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus. The appointment was announced by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 3 September, BelTA has learned.

“I think that Sivak's expertise and knowledge will be very useful in the government. After all, our senior government officials are all quite young people. Therefore, your experience will come in handy. That was the most important part of my considerations as I appointed you deputy prime minister,” the president said.

He noted that Vladimir Kukharev, who served as deputy prime minister and has been appointed Minsk mayor, knows the capital city very well and has the relevant work experience, people know him.

“Now it is time to do this rotation. I am sure that the government will get an experienced and competent person who is familiar with this area of expertise. The city of Minsk will also benefit from having an active mayor in the person of the former deputy prime minister,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
