Lukashenko orders to show materials on Belgazprombank case to Interpol

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has ordered to show materials on the Belgazprombank case to experts from Interpol and a number of countries. The head of state made this statement as he inspected the 103rd Independent Guards Airborne Brigade in Vitebsk on 16 July. An excerpt of the video from the meeting with the military was shown on the Belarus 1 channel, BelTA has learned.

“I will not delve into details, I just want to say: if you think that what you see on TV and what you hear from investigators is a political put-up job, there is nothing we can talk about. It is not a politically motivated case! They are not a source of danger or fear. However, a thief belongs in prison. Everyone should be treated the same way. I would like to reiterate the things I said in Polotsk: none of them will become prisoners of conscience. All the detainees – there are nearly 30 of them already – are giving a statement to the police. That one started crying [former chief of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko]. When he was denied registration, he started crying and giving a statement. Therefore, they will not be prisoners of conscience,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Yesterday I told investigators and the State Security Committee, the prosecutor's office, to prepare all the materials and invite specialists from Interpol, the United States of America, Poland and Russia. We will show them these documents,” the head of state said.

In his words, these international specialists will be able to see whether the Belarusian president is afraid of someone or the above-mentioned persons have really committed a crime. “Therefore, we are open,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
