Lukashenko comments on language issues in Belarus

GRODNO, 24 August (BelTA) – There must be no language issues in Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a rally in Grodno on 22 August as he criticized the opposition's proposal to get rid of the Russian language in the country, BelTA has learned.

“People speak Belarusian, Russian, Polish, Lithuanian, and Ukrainian in this wonderful region. We are offered to gradually get rid of the Russian language here. They say we will turn into Belarusian in a week. Why? Let people speak the language they want to. This is how things have always been here,” the Belarusian leader said.
